Commissioning and sample preparation (early communication)
- The customer provides the chip model, batch, quantity, and concerns (such as suspected refurbishment, counterfeiting, failure).
- The company can collect the goods or deliver samples on site.
- Develop testing plans (select project portfolios), quote prices, and sign agreements.
- Provide "gold samples" (known to be genuine) for comparison (optional, but recommended).

Routine inspection process (non-destructive priority)
In most cases, non-destructive testing is performed in the following order, followed by destructive testing to preserve the sample as much as possible:

External Visual Inspection: The most basic and first project. Use a microscope or magnifying equipment to check:
- Packaging (labels, outer packaging, tape integrity).
- Encapsulation (scratched, dirty, damaged, not filled, spilled).
- Printing (whether the model, date code, manufacturer's logo, and location of the silk screen printing are correct; whether there are typos, blurring, secondary coating, and re-marking).
- Pins/pins (bending, oxidation, re-alignment, ball planting, coplanarity, spacing, etc.).
Objective: To quickly screen for signs of refurbishment/high imitation. -
X-RAY perspective (non-destructive): Use X-ray equipment to penetrate the chip and image and observe the internal structure.
- Inspection content: pin frame, wafer size, gold wire binding (wire arc), voids, cracks, ESD damage, solder ball integrity, etc.
- Can be compared with gold samples.
- Note: Chips with thick metal sheets on the surface may not be effectively detected.
Example: X-ray displays the internal voids and structures of a chip, often used to compare the lead frame with the grain attachment.

Electrical performance testing / functional testing: According to the official specification, use equipment such as semiconductor characteristic graphers. Test whether the open/short circuit of the pin, DC parameters and basic functions are normal.
Objective: To confirm whether the chip is electrically damaged or malfunctioning. -
Solderability Test: Simulate actual welding and check the tin-eating ability of the pin (wettability). Especially suitable for old stock chips that have been stored for a long time.
Objective: To evaluate welding quality risks.
Example: Solder joint/pin wetting comparison, qualified vs unqualified such as cold welding, insufficient wetting.

RoHS testing: Detect whether lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) and other harmful substances exceed the standard.
Purpose: Environmental compliance verification (split material or whole piece testing). -
Ultrasound testing (SAT/C-SAM, non-destructive): Use ultrasound to scan for internal acoustic impedance differences. Detect packaging defects such as delamination, cracks, voids, delamination, etc.
Objective: To uncover hidden internal structural problems.
Example: C-SAM scans images showing delamination (highlighted in red), cracks, and other defects

- Whether the wafer structure, size, lettering and logo are the same as the original.
- Whether there is EOS/ESD breakdown, internal damage.
Example: The internal structure of the chip exposed after opening the lid, clearly displaying the grain and layout.
- Failure Analysis: Combine the above items with further physical/chemical analysis to determine the cause of failure (e.g. short circuit, parameter drift, etc.).
